“It is the low drive for sameness and the hatred of otherness that characterizes all forms of leftism, which inevitably are totalitarian because, defying the divine diversity of the universe, these ideologies want to convert us by force to sameness — sameness being the brother of equality. The leftist vision enjoins uniformity: the nation with one leader, one party, one race, one language, one class, one type of school, one law, one custom, one level of income, and so forth. Since nature provides diversity, this deadening sameness can be achieved only by brute force, by leveling, enforced assimilation, exile, genocide. All forms of totalitarianism, all leftist ideologies, reaching their culmination in the French, Russian, and German Revolutions, have gone that way — with the aid of guillotine, gallows, gas chambers, and Gulag.” The Principles of The Portland Declaration

Thinking of Jumping on the Bobby Jindal Bandwagon?

In the wake of Obama’s victory, it appears that many conservatives are doing just that and hoping that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will be a candidate in 2012 for the Republican nomination. I would be shocked if he doesn’t turn out to be a candidate. If Jindal hadn’t just been elected governor in 2007, it’s possible that he would have been McCain’s running mate last year.
Jindal certainly appears to be strongly pro-life, and for that we should be thankful. If that’s your only consideration in a candidate, you probably could not do much better. However, I am convinced that those who are thinking of jumping on the Jindal bandwagon (or who have already done so) thinking he is the next conservative savior would be well served to take a closer look, especially if they want to support a real fiscal as well as social conservative and not just end up with more of the same smoke and mirrors when it comes to budgetary matters that we have been treated to by Republican leaders of the recent past.
If you’re interested in comparing the substance to the rhetoric when it comes to this potential 2012 candidate, then I recommend you visit the blog of veteran conservative activist and commentator C.B. Forgotston and keep up with it regularly. Forgotston and radio talk show host Moon Griffon (who has been described as the Louisiana Rush Limbaugh) are the types of conservatives who don’t hesitate to apply the same standards to politicians in both major parties.
